Obituary

Elizabeth "Bettie" J. Reis-Maginnis, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home Apr. 28, 2018 surrounded by her family. Bettie was born June 17, 1938 in Madison to the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Riley) Esser. She graduated from Wisconsin High School in Madison; class of 1956 and later attended Ripon College.  Bettie worked at Fox Water Softener in Madison as the office manager for over 30 years before retiring in 2003.  She loved to ride motorcycle with Jim, and travel worldwide; Egypt and Alaska being a couple of her highlights and annual trips to New Orleans to enjoy the French Quarter.   She enjoyed participating in rendezvous weekends and cowboy re-enactments where she played the part of Libby Custer, wife of General Custer in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. She was a music enthusiast who enjoyed watching Jim perform with his jam band, the Trippers. When not traveling, Bettie could be found volunteering her time at the Sauk Prairie Hospital and the Tripp Museum in Prairie du Sac; where she served on the board of directors. She enjoyed her home in the woods with Jim, where she collected and displayed her Betty Boop memorabilia.

Bettie is survived by the love of her life of over 40 years, Jim Maginnis; her daughter, Farrell (Tom) Maginnis; she is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second mother, Marguerite.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on May 5, 2018 at the Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City. A private interment will be held at the Mazomanie Cemetery.

A celebration of her life will be held starting at 1:00 pm on May 19, 2018 at the Tripp Museum 565 Water St., Prairie du Sac.

Bettie's family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Janelle Hupp and Dr. Angela Weber.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society.
