Obituary

Elizabeth "Bette" (Whitlock) Shively, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2023 at the Pines Assisted Living facility in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. She was born July 22, 1938 to the late Fred and Thelma Whitlock. Bette graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke, Virginia, class of 1956, and was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) B. Shively, Sr. on March 28, 1959. Following graduation Bette worked at the Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke. They initially moved to Richmond, after which they relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they raised their sons. As Bob's career advanced, they moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri then Sycamore, Illinois. They retired in 2002 and moved to Middleton, Wisconsin in 2003 to be near their sons' families.

Upon retirement Bette and Bob frequently traveled to visit friends and relatives. She thoroughly enjoyed attending her sons', and later her grandchildren's, sporting events and other activities. Bette was a devout and cherished  wife and  mom, and loving grandma and great grandma who made countless sacrifices for her family. She relished being a grandma and a great grandma (affectionately referred to as "GG") and was so proud of each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bette was a gracious southern lady who was beloved by all who knew her.

She is survived by 2 sons, Robert Jr. (Deanna) of Sauk City, and Houston (Mary) of Pewaukee; 6 grandchildren: Taylor (Natalie), Stephen, Cody (Jenny), Alexis, Logan (Lizzie) and Mackenzie; and 3 great grandchildren: Wyatt, Hazel & Callie. She is further survived by her brother Barton (Ann) Whitlock, sister-in-law Monica Whitlock, special niece Sharon (Walt) Shell Fisher, and other relatives and friends.

Bette's family would like to extend their appreciation to the very caring and dedicated staff at the Pines Assisted Living facility. Bette and her family were especially appreciative of two special employees of Agrace hospice, Kevin Klingenmeyer  and Mary McKeown, as well as Dr. Janelle Hupp, for their compassionate care and support of Bette and her family.

A private memorial service will be held in accordance with Bette's wishes.
