Ervin E. Balfanz, age 86 passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 at St. Clare Hospice House, Baraboo. He was born in Honey Creek on September 26, 1922, the son of the late Edward and Anna (Slotty) Balfanz. He was united in marriage to Bernice Kuhnau on June 20, 1945. He was a lifetime Honey Creek farmer and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Leland. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; three children, Connie (Thomas) Sprecher, James (Kathleen) Balfanz, and Dick (Mary) Balfanz; five grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) Lewison, John (Claudia) Sprecher, Jason (Michelle) Balfanz, Matt (Colette) Balfanz and Rebekah (Andrew) Kaukl; nine great-grandchildren, Elise and Caroline Lewison, Niels Sprecher, Tyler Maki, Alexa Balfanz, Anna and Jacob Balfanz, Austin and Adam Kaukl; a sister, Ruby Pickar; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elsbeth Holdorf. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Leland, with Pastor Peter Heide officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for St. John's Church.
