Eugene W. "Mike" Winkelman, age 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his home. He was born in Greenfield Township, Sauk County, WI on September 5, 1938, the son of the late Ernest and Estelle (Koberstein) Winkelman. He was united in marriage to Carol M. Vollbrecht on September 3, 1971. Mike was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1957 until 1961, and was also in the National Guard from 1975 until 1993. He was employed at Badger Army Ammunition Plant and then retired from the UW Heating Plant in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Prairie du Sac, ten children, Debra Houston, Doulie Underwood, Candace (Jeffrey) Andrews, Eric (Kirsten) Winkelman, Jason (Jackie) Winkelman, Karol (Ken) Erdmann, Tabatha (Mike) Rosendahl, Elexas Winkelman, Missey Winkelman, Stacy Hiller; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson, Blaze; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter and an uncle, Walter Winkelman. A funeral service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 with Kirsten Weinholtz officiating. Burial, with military rites conducted by Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694, will be in Tucker Cemetery, Greenfield Township, Sauk County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00pm until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009.
