Eva Marie Wood Wolf passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2008 surrounded by her children. She was almost 88 years old. Eva was born December 30, 1920 or January 1, 1921 in Madison to Elsie Koenig and Ervin C. Wood. She moved to Mazomanie with her family 1929 and lived the rest of her life there. Graduating from the Mazomanie High School in 1939, Eva went back to school at MATC under a scholarship when in her 60s. Eva Marie had a lifelong love of gardening and writing. For many years she wrote columns and travelogues for the Mazomanie Sickle. She was named Mazomanie's Poet Laureate. On August 23, 1941, Eva married her high school sweetheart, Frank Herman (Sonny) Wolf, and they started farming on the Kerr farm west of Mazomanie. She was allergic to horses, seldom venturing to the barn, but they had time to pick crocus in the springtime on the Mazomanie Bluff. They celebrated their sixty-second anniversary in 2003. To their loving marriage, they brought thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, and then 39 grandchildren and later 23 great-grandchildren. Eva and Frank showed their interest in young people through their work with the Mazomanie Busy Bees 4-H Club and the establishment of a scholarship in their name after Frank died in 2004. She established Mazomanie's Mile-Long-Garage sale and the Mazomanie Christmas Star Lighting. Eva was a life member of the Mazomanie Historical Society, a member of the Handy Homemakers and active on The Mazomanie Chamber of Commerce Welcome Wagon. Eva was also a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church almost her whole life and a member of their Council of Catholic Women, serving as an officer. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Juanita Cuccia, son-in-law Glenn Counsell, and two infant brothers, Robert and William. Eva Marie's happiest times were when her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren surrounded her and her husband Sonny, celebrating a holiday or special family event. She also loved auctions-being famous for bidding on almost anything including chairs of all type. She has a large Hull pottery collection filling her home. Christmas was special for Eva; she loved Christmas music anytime and her adult and grandchildren Christmas parties were a year long in planning. Her family mournes the passing of this humble and kind mother and sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BARNABAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Mazomanie, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 with Father Ken Klink officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Barnabas Cemetery.
