Obituary

Evelyn "Evie" Ida Accola, age 89, passed away Feb. 4, 2026, at Maplewood Village. She was born on Feb. 12,1936 in Honey Creek, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Klaetsch) Accola.

She attended Prairie du Sac High School, graduating in 1954. She graduated from Sauk County Teacher's College and U.W. Platteville earning her degree in education. Evie taught school for 39 years at Sauk County Teacher's college and Blackhawk, Tower Rock, Spruce Street and Grand Avenue in the Sauk Prairie School District.

During her retirement she kept busy volunteering at the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society, working at Ganser's Variety Store, traveling with good friends, teaching piano lessons and tutoring students. Her hobbies included gardening, playing piano, computer tasks, mowing with her Kubota, jigsaw puzzles and her farm cats. She enjoyed gathering with 6 special college friends monthly for lunch throughout much of her life.

Evie was a member of Zion Reformed Church, rural Prairie du Sac, until its closing in 1959 and has been a member of First United Church of Christ since then. She was an active member there through the years, singing in the choir, serving on the consistory and committees.

Evie is survived by nephews: Alton Accola (Patrice Pakiz) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, John (Leanna) Steuber of Billings, Montana and her niece: Joan (Tom) Kaul of Baraboo and cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Roy (VaLera) Accola and her infant brother, Lloyd Accola, her sisters: Ruth Accola and Caroline (Edsel) Steuber.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Maplewood Village for their loving care of Evie the past 3 years and to Bristol Hospice for their support and care the past two months. You became like family. Evie appreciated the visits from her church friends, minister, former coworkers and students, relatives and friends since moving to Maplewood Village.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First United Church of Christ in Sauk City, Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society in Prairie du Sac or the Sauk County Humane Society in Baraboo.

The funeral will be held on Evie's 90th birthday, Thursday, Feb. 12 at 11:00 a.m.at First United Church of Christ in Sauk City. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church. Luncheon at church to follow service.

Interment will be held at a later date at Zion Memorial Cemetery.
