Evelyn Anna (O'Dell) (Campbell) Markert, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at her home in Baraboo with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was born in the Town of West Point near Lodi, Wi on August 25, 1925 the eldest daughter of Fred and Loretta (Hanneman) O'Dell. She grew up on the Hanneman family farm on the shore of Crystal Lake. She was united in marriage to Gordon "Jim" Campbell on August 1, 1942. Evie and Jim lived in several towns and cities throughout Wisconsin and somehow found time to raise 5 children to fill their lives with love and laughter. Jim preceded her in death on July 2, 1971.
Evelyn was employed for over 30 years as a nurse's aide before retiring from Jefferson Meadows Care Center. It was while employed at Jefferson Meadows, that she met and married Virgil A. Markert on April 11, 1984. Evelyn and Virgil enjoyed 27 wonderful years together; spending their retirement years traveling, fishing, gardening, and sharing plenty of good times with family and friends before his passing on Dec. 14, 2011.
Evelyn cherished family and loved polka dancing, yodeling, fried chicken wings, tacos and practical jokes. She will be best remembered by family and friends for her sweet nature and beautiful smile. Evelyn will also be fondly remembered by Oak Park Place residents and staff for her special crafty cards and treats.
Survivors include her children, Charlotte Campbell, Alan (Marsha Stolte) Campbell, Debora (Bill McNamer) Cook and Eddie (Valerie) Campbell; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Michael) Reuter, Christine (Jeffrey) Kehoe, Brian (Jeni) Henry, Jessica (Abraham) Troia, Michael (Laura) Pelgorsch, Jason (Nicole) Campbell, David (Crystal Bartz) Pelgorsch, James Cook, Zachary Campbell and Kristopher (Sarah Kaun) Campbell; 13 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Betty Sellner, Ann Horton, Lulubelle Glawe, and Marie Gilbertson; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands; Gordon Campbell and Virgil Markert; daughter, Bonnie Campbell; brothers, Donovan and Dean O'Dell and a sister, Mary O'Dell.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Sept 9, 2015 at Denzer United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
