Obituary

Franz Ferdinand Hoehne, age 86, passed away unexpectedly at the Sauk Prairie Hospital on Thursday, July 24, 2025.  He was born in Germany on May 10, 1939 and later immigrated the U.S.  where he joined the United States Army in 1959 and earned his citizenship.

Franz was very proud to be an American and proud to serve his country.  While in the service he was deployed to Germany where he met Lydia L. Seltrecht.  Franz and Lydia later married; he was heartbroken when she passed away June 18, 2023.  Over his 30-year career one of his first duty was working to protect the kids abolishing segregation in schools and he fought in the Tet Offensive during Vietnam.  During his career with Army he earned many different service-related ribbons/citations and medals.

He retired from the service as the Commander Sgt. Major at Ft. Belvoir,  VA retiring in 1989.  At the suggestion of a friend from the service they moved to the Madison area, settling in Sauk City.  Franz went on to work at McFarlane's in his retirement where he worked in the Fabrication Dept. for close to 10 years before officially enjoying his earned retirement.  He enjoyed, "Football "especially Premier League, Asian Martial Arts movies and sitting in the sun and watching Emmi his dog.

Franz is survived by his daughter, Carmen and two sons, Thomas and Bobby and his faithful dog, Emmi.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marny.

A graveside committal with Military Honors Accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW 7694 will be held at 2:30 pm on Wed. July 30, 2025 at the Sauk City Cemetery.
