IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gale Vernon
Thompson
February 2, 1956 – April 29, 2024
Gale V. Thompson, age 68, of Denzer, passed away at his home on Monday April 29, 2024, after a 5-year battle with lung cancer.
Gale was born in Baraboo, on February 2, 1956, and grew up in Merrimac to the late Dock and Mickey (Canode) Thompson. He attended and graduated Sauk Prairie High School; the Class of 1974. He soon married his high school sweetheart, on June 14, 1975. Gale followed his family and joined the Carpenters Union Local 314 and was a proud member for 48 years and retired early at 55. He always kept busy with side jobs, lending someone a helping hand, or simply putzing around the house. Gale enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and potlucks watching the Packers or a NASCAR race with family and friends. He loved dancing the night away and would grab anyone willing to be swung around the dance floor and sometimes those not so willing, as well. Most of all Gale enjoyed the company of his wife and you rarely saw these two apart. Later in his years, you could find him relaxing in his shed, while watching anything with cowboys and catching up on the latest social media news on his smartbox. He welcomed anyone to stop in for a chat and a cold one.
Gale will be deeply missed by his family and is survived by his wife and best friend, of nearly 49 years, Lorraine Thompson; two loving children Chad Thompson and Crysta (Craig) Rickey; one of his greatest joys, his granddaughter, Emma Rickey; step granddaughter, Ashley (Luke) Thronson; step grandsons, Cole and Dylan Rickey; step great grandsons Kason and Rhett Thronson; three siblings, Bob (Nancy) Thompson, Alice (Tom) Frosch, Linda (Ron) Greenheck; sister in-law, LaVonne (Rick) Kamnetz; brother in-law, Dan McClung; sister in-laws Elaine Biech (Dan Green), Doris (Dave) Hooks; brother in-laws, Butch Gieck and Archie Gieck; many wonderful nieces and nephews, other family, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary, Neil and Tony Thompson; sister, Tracie McClung; sister in-law, Linda Thompson; in-laws, Harvey and Beatrice Gieck; sister in-laws, Mary Gieck and Nancy Gieck; brother in-law, Gary Gieck.
A celebration of Gale's life will be held at the Denzer Town Hall on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 12pm-4pm.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Dr. Toby Campbell at UW Heath and Agrace Hospice for all the special care he received and Hooverson Funeral Home for their services.
