Garry D. Peterson

Garry Delton Peterson, age 86, of Mazomanie passed away at his home on Friday, Mar. 27, 2026. He was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Tomah, WI to the late Clarence and Avis (Erdman) Peterson. He attended Wisconsin Dells High School, graduating in 1957. Garry was united in marriage to Marilyn R. Mielke on June 11, 1960.

Garry was a truck driver in the Teamsters Union for 40 years driving predominately in central Wisconsin. While living in Black Earth, Garry served over 20 years as a volunteer fireman and paramedic, serving some of that time as the Assistant Fire Chief. Toward the end of his career, Garry relocated to Texas where, as a driver, he earned the nickname “Tucumcari Garry” because of his regular truck route from Dallas to Tucumcari, NM. In 1997 Garry retired and returned with Marilyn to Wisconsin, making their home in Mazomanie.

Garry’s interests included growing and maintaining a beautiful yard and garden area. Garry was particularly proud of his vegetable gardens and loved sharing his produce with family members and neighbors. Model trains were his hobby with a large train setup in the lower level of his house. Fascinated by all types of trains, Garry subscribed to several train magazines that he faithfully read and collected.

Garry was a devoted family man who is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Randy (Jayne) Peterson and Jeff (Yvette) Peterson; grandchildren, Heather (Justin) Karp, Jason (Ashley) Peterson, Zach Peterson (fiancée, Korl Bomkamp), Max Peterson and Samantha (Shane) Moyer; and great grandchildren, Avery, Lincoln, Hazel, Raegen, Noa and Taytum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Naber and Jeannine Tesch.

A visitation for Garry will be held on Thursday, Apr. 9th, 2026, from 3:00 pm until 5:30 pm followed at 5:30 pm by a brief Memorial Service at Hooverson Funeral Home, 702 Emily Road., Mazomanie. An internment for Garry will be held the following day at the Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg.
