IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geertruida De
Moor
August 15, 2021
Dr. Geertruida de Moor, OblO.Cist passed away in the Lord on August 15 after a brief illness. Born February 2, 1939, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, she dedicated herself to learning, teaching, and travel. Whatever she set her mind to, she went at it with great earnestness.
She was an economic historian, a linguist who knew 7 languages, and a perpetual student. After much study she converted from Calvinism to Roman Catholicism. She received a Ph.D. degree from Leiden University, the Netherlands for her dissertation on the Dutch Cistercian nuns' monastery of Leeuwenwhorst. In the US she earned a Ph.D. for her dissertation on a 16th century prayer book she found at the Jewish Theological Union in New York City. In 2016 she became an American citizen and immediately began traveling to see "my new country".
She loved cats, cookie rolling (for pfeffernusse cookies) at St James parish, visiting museums, her little social groups with whom she talked daily, and her relationship with the nuns of Valley of Our Lady Monastery. She was preceded in death by her parents Cornelia Johanna van Viegen and Jo de Moor and her brother Pieter. She leaves behind her fellow oblates and the sisters of Valley of Our lady Monastery.
The funeral will be Friday, August 27 at 11:00 at St James Church, Madison. Visitation will be at 10:00. Burial will be private at Valley of Our Lady Monastery, Prairie du Sac, WI.
