Obituary

Gene E. Brueggeman, age 76, of Mazomanie, Wisconsin, died of natural causes in his shop on February 3, 2025. He was born on July 5, 1948, in Wausau, Wisconsin and was the eldest son of Elmer and Bernice (Fisher) Brueggeman.

Gene was a skilled cabinet maker and was known for his ability to build or fix anything. In fact, it wasn't truly broken until Gene said it was "broke". He was passionate about his family, his birds, gardening and helping others.

Gene married Nancy Reeve on June 17, 1978, together they shared 45 years of love, family, travel and laughter.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice, father Elmer; his sister, Susan (Joe) Ballweg, and Daughter in Law Julie Mellum (David).

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his sons, William Gene (Kimberly) Brueggeman,  Phillip John (Kari) Brueggeman, David Mellum, Rick Mellum (Sue), and his daughter Susan Mellum in addition to his grandchildren, Richard (Kari) Linley  Melissa (Jon) Novotny, Cassandra (Nick) Burgette, Nickolas Mellum , Thalassa (Zack) Cooper, Eagan Wisner, Cyan Wisner, Tony Brueggeman, Tyler Brueggeman, and Aleczander Brueggeman; as well as his great-grandchildren, Blake Linley, Aiden Linley, Colton Linley, Verra Novotny, Brecken Novotney, Nora Burgette, Evelyn Burgette, Landen Sullivan, and Gracelynn Cooper; and his siblings, Phyllis (David) Powders and Todd E. Brueggeman.

Pallbearers are Nickolas Mellum, Richard Linley, Aiden Linley, Trevor Upright, Joseph Ballweg, Jeremy Ballweg, Travis Wisner, Eagan Wisner, and Aleczander Brueggeman.

Visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, 702 Emily Road, Mazomanie, Wisconsin February 12th, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Funeral Services will be held at New Heights Lutheran Church in Mazomanie, Wisconsin February 13th, 11:00 AM

Meal to follow graveside service at Grandma Mary's Cafe in Arena.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Heights Lutheran Church.
