Obituary

George W. Gieck, age 91, of Sauk City/Baraboo, died on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie. He was born in Leland on May 11, 1922, the son of the late George and Elsa (Malone) Gieck. He was united in marriage to Esther B. Raddatz on January 28, 1945. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2008. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII, Korea and the Cuban Crisis. He was retired from the Sauk City Utilities Department, had served on the Sauk City Fire Department and devoted time as a scout leader. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baraboo and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.


Survivors include five siblings, Augusta Gieck of North Freedom, Lavern Gieck of Plain, Fred Gieck of North Freedom, Russell Gieck of North Freedom and Irene Hooker of North Freedom; five grandsons, John and Craig (Vicki Wautlet) Gieck, and Bryan (Deb), David (Brandi) and Randy Zink; sister-in-law, Delores Raddatz; brother-in-law, Richard Bruckert; great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, June Zink; a son, John Gieck; sister, Martha Bruckert; an infant brother; a brother, Clarence; son-in-law, Carl Zink; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Raddatz and Joseph Hooker; six grandchildren, Veronica, Wanda and Cathleen Walch, and Denise, Darla and Rod Gieck.


A graveside service will be held at the SAUK CITY CEMETERY at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Military Rites will be accorded by Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post 7694.
