Gerald "Gerry" L. Cummings

Gerald “Red Fox” Lee Cummings, age 86, of Prairie du Sac passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026 at Serentiy Villa in Slinger surrounded by his family. He was born at home in rural Jackson County near North Bend, WI on Aug. 30, 1939 to the late Raymond and Julia (Gassen) Cummings. He attended and graduated from Prairie du Sac High School, Class of 1957.

Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1957 until 1960. Jerry served aboard the U.S.S. Kenneth Whiting a seaplane tender, and was stationed on Okinawa. Jerry was an Electrician’s Mate for the Navy working on early versions of drones until his honorable discharge. He will be remembered for his hard working “get your hands dirty” attitude where he worked in Pipeline Construction. Working for Icke Construction, Intercon and lastly retiring from Pertzborn Plumbing, all serving with Construction Laborers Union 464.

Jerry was most at home in the woods. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and could often be found shooting trap. He shot competitively on teams throughout Wisconsin and was a charter member of the Roxbury Valley Trap Club. He was proud of his family and looked forward to family events including hunting trips to Oconnell’s, fishing trips to the Dakotas, track meets, softball and football games, but was the “king of the Irish good bye”, where he quietly snuck out the side door when no one was looking.

He is survived by his three children, Michelle (Dennis) Delaney and their boys, Dylan (Amanda) Delaney and their daughter Emerson, Logan Delaney and his son Oliver; Michael (Sara) Cummings and their children, Connor, Aaron, and Leah; and Melanie (Brad) Suchla and their children, Mikaela and Regin (Brady Fry) Suchla. He is further survived by siblings, Wilbert (MaryAnn) Cummings, Ila Rae (George) Ballweg, and Judy Bible; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia (Stanley) Haas.

Geralds family would like to sincerely thank the staff and caregivers from Serentiy Villa in Slinger for their care of Gerald for his last month.

Military Honors will be accorded for Gerald on Thursday, Aug. 13th, 2026 at 4:00 pm by the Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City a visitation will follow until 7:00 pm.
