Gertrude Elizabeth Wehler, age 92, of Prairie du Sac, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on March 28, 1917 in Winfield, (DuPage County) IL, the daughter of Luther and Winnie Cunningham Loy. Gertrude was united in marriage to John J. Wehler on October 22, 1940 in Iowa. Gertrude and her husband John lived on a small farm near Lake Wisconsin. She loved to fish following the day's activities. She devoted much of her life to raising the family and entertaining other family members and friends. She later enjoyed fishing in Canada and making friends with other campers. Throughout the years her banana cream pies, cross-stitch, and quilting were enjoyed by many. She set an example for the rest of the family with her determination and will to live and enjoy life. Getting together with her close friends was one of the things she did up until the very end of her life. Survivors include seven children, Jack (Pat) of Grants Pass, Oregon, Margaret (John Haskins) of Lombard, IL, Mike (Judy) of Plain, Barbara (Mike Zitnick) of Lodi, Robin (Sally) of Baraboo, Linda Moller (Fred) of DeForest, Mary (Dave Williams) of Mounds View, MN; three sisters, Eleanor Torbeck of Libertyville, IL, Dorothy Kerin of Woodruff, and Doris Burandt of Salem; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and eight brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at CONCORDIA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 585 5th St., Prairie du Sac, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 with Rev. Dennis Weis officiating. Family and friends may call from noon until the time of service at the church on Saturday. A light lunch will follow the service at the church.
