Obituary

Gladys Mae Muth Hendricks, 101, of Richland Center, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Schmitt Woodland Hills.

She was born on February 6, 1921, the first of seven children to Louis and (Maude) Smith Muth. She married the love of her life, Jesse Hendricks, on January 27, 1940, in Dubuque. They celebrated their 52 nd Anniversary before he passed away on September 11, 1992. They took many trips in the United States and spent winters in Florida until 1991. Gladys' husband, son, and son-in-law built a cabin at Nelson Lake near Hayward and they spent many weekends there with family and friends, hunting, fishing and just being together. They lived in Rockbridge until 1964 when moving to their new home in Richland Center.

Gladys attended elementary and high school in Richland Center. She graduated with the class of 1938, attending every reunion including the last gathering on their 75 th reunion. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, delivered Meals on Wheels and worked at the local Food Pantry. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1931 and served as Deacon and Elder.

Gladys had many hobbies including bowling for twelve years and going to State Tournament every year and then bowled twice a week when in Florida. She and Jesse shared the love of dancing and did so on many Friday and Saturday nights. She loved quilting and has shared them with many family members. Other hobbies included card playing, crossword puzzles, word search, reading and TV (especially enjoying Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and mysteries) and watching the Brewers games, ceramics, embroidery, crocheting and many other crafts. One of her most cherished items is a crocheted dress that her grandmother made for her when she was a toddler. More recently, her d aughter, granddaughters , and some great granddaughters, and great-great granddaughters have had their picture taken in it as well.

Gladys has been a member of the Rockbridge Meal Site Family since its beginning in 2006. She loved being there and playing BINGO and Euchre with friends. She was so respected and fondly considered a Mom to many there.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Jolene ( LaVerne) Coy, grandchildren, Lori (Steve) Beatty, of Hillsboro, WI and Steve (Robyn) Coy, Sauk City, WI, Tracy (Leif) Ladd, Scott (Dawn) Hendricks, Eric (Michelle) Hendricks, and Randy Hendricks, Richland Center; 16 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jesse; her son, Edward (Diane) Burns Hendricks; her brothers and sisters-in-law, George (Dorothy) Muth, Ed (Jean)Muth, Frank LeRoy (Bernice) Muth, Milford LaVerne (Ilene)Muth, and sisters and brothers -law, Lorna (LaMont) Paulson, Gloria (Tom)Mickelson. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gladys' funeral will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Clary Funeral Home, 26777 Jelland Drive, Richland Center, WI with visitation from 10:00-ll:30 A.M. and funeral to follow. Burial will be in the Richland Center Cemetery. The Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, is handling the funeral.
