Gladys P. Varner-Hagemeier, age 101, passed away on Feb, 22, 2026.  She was born on July 11, 1924 to Lester and Bertha Brillhart in Akron, Ohio. Her only sibling was her sister Beatrice.  Gladys married Donald W. Varner on June 11, 1945 and had seven children with him.

Gladys graduated from Kent State University on August 13, 1946, with a B.A. degree in Educational Science.  Gladys taught grade school for many years in Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Thereafter she worked for Wisconsin DOT where she received numerous awards, including from the governor, before she retired at the age of 75.  Years after Donald's death, Gladys married Richard Hagemeier who had been a long-time friend of her and Donald.

Gladys enjoyed camping, boating, canoeing, snorkeling, gardening and attending Mardi Gras parades. Gladys' passion was crocheting, whereby she created numerous animals, Easter and Halloween figures. She loved watching the birds at her feeder.  In her later years she enjoyed taking several cruises with husband, Richard.

Gladys is survived by her children, Pam (Jon Coyle deceased), Gail (James) Leland, Brian (Claudia), Stuart (Sue), Brent (Mary), Stephanie (Charles) Peterson; and stepson, Christopher (Christine); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice; a son, Donald II; husband, Don Varner; grandsons, Masin Varner and Thomas Peterson; stepson, Richard Hagemeier II; and husband, Richard Hagemeier; son in-law, Jon Coyle.

A service for Gladys will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.  Glady's interment will take place on March 10 at 1:00 pm at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Akron, OH.
