IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon "Gordy"
M. Brings
May 24, 1953 – March 19, 2023
Gordon Mathew Brings, age 69 of Cross Plains passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at home. Gordy was born in Madison on May 24, 1953, the son of Clarence and Eleanor (Joyce) Brings. He graduated from Middleton High School in 1971.
Gordy married Patty (Pings) at St. Al's in Sauk City on April 12, 1975. Together they created a beautiful life. They were looking forward to celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary this year. The two shared a love of live music and spent many nights dancing and listening to some of their favorite bands, Universal Sound and The Ghosts in the Room. They also spent countless hours supporting their children and grandchildren watching football, basketball, baseball, soccer, dance, volleyball, softball, and so much more. Gordy's presence will be missed at these events.
Gordy had many wonderful attributes, but one of the things that many knew about him was what a hard worker he was. Gordy was a loyal and dedicated employee at Zander's Creamery in Cross Plains for 33 years, until the business closed. He then worked at Plastic Ingenuity for another 15 years before he retired in July of 2021. Gordy was a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything and took pride in a job well done.
Gordy lived life to the fullest and filled his time with the things and people he loved most: his family, hunting, fishing, working, being outdoors, and cutting wood at the home farm to name a few. He loved helping others and not a day went by without him giving his time or talents to help someone. Gordy was passionate about giving blood and was committed to giving on a regular basis from the age of 18 on. Since 1989, when the American Red Cross first started keeping track of donations, Gordy gave 475 pints of blood. He was also an active member of his local archery club, Cross Plains Valley Archers, since the early 80s. Gordy enjoyed spending time with his sons, supporting their interests by doing their favorite things with them in his spare time. Whether it was ice fishing, pan fishing, carp shooting, rabbit hunting, deer hunting, playing cards, or working on small engines, Gordy gave his sons memories that will last a lifetime. Gordy was an honest, patient, kind, humble soul. His loss leaves a hole that can never be filled, but his memory will live on through the many lives' he's touched throughout the years.
Gordy is survived by his wife, Patty; sons Brian (Sarah) and their daughters Callie, Ava, and Addison; Randy (Shine) and their children Noah, Brooklyn, Connor, Brayden, and another little blessing to come in July, and Gary; his precious beagles Sally and Zoey; stepdad Joe Sukowatey; step mother-in-law Darlene Dederich; sisters: Sr. Ruth, Sr. Judy, Janet (Larry) Kurt, Mary (John) Dremsa, Rose (Mike) Schuchardt, brother Kevin; sister-in-laws Jacky, Pam (Kurt) Koenig, brother-in-laws Mike (Julie) Pings, Mark (Mary) Pings; nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
Gordy was preceded in death by his mom and dad, mother-in-law (Katie Pings) and father-in-law (Gene Pings), brother (Bob), and brother-in-law (Mitch Pings).
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 4th at Hooverson Funeral Home in Sauk City, WI. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish in Cross Plains on Wednesday, April 5th at 11:00am, with visitation starting at 9:00 am and continuing until mass begins. The family invites family and friends to join them for a luncheon at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury following the service.
