Obituary

H. Duane Kundert, age 84, of Sauk City, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2012, at home with his family by his side. He was born July 7, 1928 in New Glarus, the son of the late Henry and Ramona (Fuchs) Kundert. He attended Stoughton Grade and High School and Madison Business College. He then married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Johnson, on September 24, 1949. Duane worked at Oscar Mayer Company, Wisconsin Airlines and National Lock Company. He then purchased Kundert's Department Store, operating it with his parents. In 1974 he opened Madison KOA in DeForest, retiring after thirty plus years, in 2006. Duane was active in the Masonic Lodge (50 years), Zor Shrine, Chamber of Commerce (past president), Sauk City Federal Housing Board, and Men of Achord. He was a member and choir member of the First United Church of Christ in Sauk City and Naples, FL.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sauk City; a sister, Marlene Machut of Waukesha; three daughters, Julie (George) Perry of Sauk City, Evonne Kundert of LaCrosse and Karen Ammann of Sauk City; son-in-law, Robert Krumenauer of Plymouth; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Denise), Scott (Brenda) and Craig (Pam) Perry, Dan Krumenauer, Kara (Ryan) Meissen, Ty (Cortney) and Eric Stebbins, Steven and Ashlea Thistle; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was recently preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Kristine Krumenauer.


A memorial service will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 504 Washington Ave., Sauk City, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to First United Church of Christ and Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.
