Obituary

Harvey Edward Bender, age 90, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at his home. He was born in Sauk County on May 21, 1922, the son of the late Edward and Mabel (Mallon) Bender. He was united in marriage to Ruth Huerth on December 19, 1946. He served in the Army at Gaudalcanal during WWII. Harvey worked as a mason/bricklayer and owned his own business known as Bender Masonry. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 167, served as a chairperson for the Sauk City Boy Scout Troup, and a member of the Sauk Prairie Historical Society. He designed and built the Sauk Prairie Veterans Memorial on Water Street in Sauk City. He took great pride in his work and will be missed.


Survivors include his wife, Ruth;
a son, Mark (Cindy) Bender;
a granddaughter, Bridget (Wade) Rhyner; and
two great-grandchildren, Emma and Dylan.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis; a daughter, Mary; a brother, Orville; and a sister, Darlene Grauvogl.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Hooverson Funeral Home, with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
