Harvey D. Jewell, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Clare Hospital, Baraboo. He was born June 2, 1927 to the late Arthur and Melita (Baumbach) Jewell. Harvey served in the United States Navy from 1945-46 and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in 1951. Harv worked in pharmacies in Madison, Richland Center, and Viroqua before moving to Shawano in 1961 where he was worked at Clinic Pharmacy until the time of his retirement in 1992.
Over the years he was an active participant in his church, serving at times as Evangelism Committee Chairman, Congregation President, and on various committees. In 1974 he co-shared the Shawano Distinguished Citizen Award for his co-chairing of the Shawano Centennial Events.
He enjoyed woodworking and refurbishing old chairs, spectator sports of all kinds and, in his younger days, barbershop quartet singing.
Harv is survived by his daughter Connie (Bill) Burton of Baraboo; his son David (Diane) Jewell of Germantown, WI; two granddaughters, Trina (Jonathan) Barnett and Emily (Michael) Fazio, two grandsons, Tyler (Steffany) and Steven Jewell; three great grandchildren, Joshua, Ainsley and Abigail Barnett; a brother, Richard (Joanie) Jewell; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell; two sisters, Mildred Burnett and Norma Huntzicker.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11:00am at St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac with Pastor Sally Williams officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Interment in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta will be held at a later date.
