Obituary

Howard W Brining, age 81, passed away Sunday April 16 2023. Howard was born August 13, 1941 to George and Grace Brining in Blackwood New Jersey.

Howard entered the Marine Corp November 3, 1958, April 5 1965 he was with Hotel Company when they landed in Vietnam. 40 some years later he reunited with the men from his unit organized by some very dedicated men who tracked down most of the members. It was a very inspiring and healing experience. He served 20 proud years with the Marines and retired September 30, 1978 from Twenty-nine Palms California. He met Carla Olson in 1973 in Alameda California and they were married July 24, 1976 at Lake Metigoshe North Dakota. After he retired Howard drove truck in the San Francisco Bay Area until he finally convinced Carla it was time to get out of California. In 2005 they moved to Baraboo Wisconsin, drawn by Carla's sister and her family. Howard worked for Recob's Target shop until the pandemic. There he was exposed to trap shooting and became an avid trap shooter. Howard had many hobbies and loves, collecting Mustangs and Mustang memorabilia (he has a jaw dropping room filled with his collection), running, he has ran over 20 marathons, the American River 50 miler twice, and helped organize and ran the Skyline 50K in Oakland CA, hunting and fishing and any other activity that caught his eye.

Howard is survived by his wife Carla, daughter Lori Winn (Mark), son Steve Brining (Vickie), grandsons Ryan Winn (Kim), Alex Winn (Kat), great granddaughter Addison Winn, brother Ron Brining (Mary Ellen), sisters Therese Fountain (Tom) and June Kuzas (Dave), sister in law Judy Ellington (John), Darlene Olson, brother in law John Olson (Therese) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was proceeded in death by his parents George and Grace Brining, Father & Mother in law George and Jane Olson, brother George Brining, sister Grace Brining Batten, and brother in law David Olson.

Thanks to the staff at St Claire Hospital and the staff at Maplewood for their care and help in caring for Howard. Also thanks to all of the VA personnel who helped in managing his care.

No funeral services are planned but there will be a celebration of life for Howard 8/13/2023.
