James "Jim" Arthur Engle, age 91, passed away in Baraboo, WI at Meadow View Memory Care on Monday, August 3, 2015. Jim was born, one of four sons to Benjamin and Mabel (Welfeldt) Engle in Freeport, Ill, on January 11, 1924.

Jim graduated from Freeport High School to join the U.S. Navy. After training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, he was sent to serve in Nantucket and Greenland. He was always prod of his service to his country and proudly flew the U.S. Flag daily.

After the war, Jim rejoined his wife, Marie "Peg" Forsythe Engle in Freeport, Ill. Jim worked as a butcher, owned a Clover Farm grocery store, worked as a salesman for gas delivery and dairy products, and later in life he worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker. In retirement, Jim enjoyed making woodworking projects for his family and friends and he created beautiful counted cross-stitch art, and enjoyed traveling in his RV.

Throughout his life, Jim worked hard to provide for his family and spent weekends and vacations building the family homes, in Freeport, Ill and cabin on Lake Wisconsin. He was a devoted father who spent hours entertaining his children and friends driving his boat to teach them how to water ski.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marie "Peg" Forsythe Engle, whom he married January 21, 1945, celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in 2015. Also surviving Jim is his son, Brian (Margaret) Engle of Conover, WI., his two daughters, Peggy (Roger) Heidenreich of Merrimac, WI., and Christy (Steve) Reuber of Freeport, Il. Jim was always proud of his 5 grandchildren and families, Lee (Kari Theil) Heidenreich of Roseville, Mn., Brad (Erica) Reuber of Baraboo, Jeff (Jen) Heidenreich of St. Paul, Mn., Todd (Nichole) Reuber of Princeville, Il., and Amy (Chris) Orren of Belleville, WI. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to thank the staff of Meadow View Memory Care and Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care of Jim during his stay. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. John McAuliffe and Dr. Timothy Deering.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service for Jim at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living, 1700 Jefferson St., Baraboo on Monday, August 10 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Meadow View Memory Care, the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance or charity of your choice.
