Obituary

James "Jim" B. Carney, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Tues. Jan. 3, 2017 after a courageous 14 year battle with esophageal cancer. He was born in Baraboo on Oct. 23, 1943 to the late Victor and Marie (Donovan) Carney. Jim graduated Prairie du Sac High School in 1961. He later enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly operated in the tank battalion. Jim had a love of trains and owned and operated Jackson St. Depot in downtown Sauk City in the late 1970s. He worked many years with Renewal Unlimited; working with troubled youths doing construction and carpentry projects. Jim retired in 2008 from the University Wisconsin Madison after working 17 years in the environmental and custodial services dept. He enjoyed attending A.A. meetings, home projects, traveling and watching the freighters at the Soo Locks.

Jim is survived by his children, James II (Kim) Carney of Richland Center, Tim (Rita) Carney of Green Bay, Amanda (Isaac Janneh) Madurkay of Sun Prairie and Jonathan Carney of Sumpter Twshp., 5 grand-daughters, and one grandson on the way; his former wife, Norma Halsted; 2 sisters, Julie (Butch) Troiber and Margaret (John) Crahen. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fr. Robert Carney and sister, Cathleen Wagner.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sat. Jan 7, 2017 at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City. A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Otter Creek Cemetery.
