James (Jimmy) R. Peters died at his home on Lake Wisconsin Monday April 17 th . He was born in Freeport, Illinois on July 3, 1938 to Fred and Agnes (Nehus) Peters.
Jim was a 1956 Aquin High School graduate and after high school worked in his father's business Freeport Carburetor and Electric later known as FC&E Marine. After his father's retirement, Jim ran the business until his own retirement in 2005 when he moved to his favorite place – Lake Wisconsin but continued to travel across the U.S. His favorite travel spot was Lake Powell, Utah. He was best known for tinkering in his garage and drinking Pabst or Miller Lite around the fire, telling stories. He married Janis Ascher in 1960 and they had 4 children. They divorced in 1984. He spent the rest of his time together with his longtime friend Barbara Smith and her family.
Jim was preceded in death by a daughter Jane, his parents, sister Nancy (Richard) Grant, and grandson Kyle Ertmer.
He is survived by his children Jill Peters-Dagel, Jean (Don Ertmer) Peters and John Peters, grandchildren Sarah Ertmer, Harli Ann, James and Max Peters, and Nicholas Dagel, longtime friend Barb Smith and her 4 children Vicki (Bill) Schlamp, Lori (Don) Brunnnett, Melanie Zweifel and Angela Hill (Greg), multitudes of grand and great grandchildren.
No visitation or services are planned at this time. A celebration for close friends and family will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Freeport, IL. Condolences may be sent through Hooverson Funeral Home in Sauk City, Wisconsin or directly to the family.
