James "Jim" Virgil Key, age 84, passed away Thurs., Dec. 10, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. He was born in Grant County on July 23, 1931 to the late Virgil and Opal (Turben) Key. Following graduation from Patch Grove High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Jim married Anita Schneider in Muscoda on June 14, 1952. After 30 years with the Wisconsin D.O.T. as a surveyor and engineer tech, Jim retired in 1990. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping, and walking the woods searching for ginseng and morels. Jim looked forward to family events and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac.

Jim is survived by his wife, Anita; 3 children, Rodney (Marsha) Key of Denzer, Susan Key-Baier of Prairie du Sac, Kevin (Patricia) Key of Prairie du Sac; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie (Tom) Barth, Stacy (Josh) Soboleski, Jesse (Stacey) Baier, Brian (Kira) Key, Alania (Brent) Herbrand; 10 great grandchildren, Natalie, Isabelle, Ben, Emily, Madilyn, Chloe, Quinn, BrookLynn, Rubie, Vivianne; 2 sisters, Eloise and Peggy, three brothers, Gilbert, Frederick and Ivan. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Karen.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tues., Dec. 15, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of service. Burial will follow at the Prairie du Sac Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
