Obituary

James "Jim" V. Mathias, age 78, of Sauk City and formerly of Richland Center passed away peacefully at the Montello Care Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024.  He was born in Illinois to the late Virgil and Marcia (Rooper) Mathias.  He grew up in Illinois and graduated from Potosi, WI High School; class of 1964.  Jim was united in marriage to Virginia Dalsing on June 8, 1968; together they had three children, Steve, Guy and Peggy and were long time Cuba City residents.   Jim always worked with his hands, and started working for AY McDonald of Dubuque, and later moved as a mechanic at Volkswagen of Dubuque, Kieler Garage, Dellabella Motors in Cuba City and later at Runde's.  Eventually he went on to foundry work at Iroquois Foundry in Browntown and Richland Center Foundry where he worked for 12 years until he retired.  Jim and Ginny enjoyed canning and looked forward to flea markets and making salsa and hot peppers.  Jim enjoyed tractor pulls, raising rabbits and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ginny; his children, Steve (Shauna Somers) Mathias, Guy (Julie) Mathias and Peggy (Joe) Beverley; 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; 2 sisters, Pam (Floyd) Gillen and Machelle (Robert) Schmitz; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death a brother, Victor Mathias.

A memorial mass for Jim will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 160 4th W. St., Richland Center, WI.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
