Obituary

Janet R. Smith, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015. She was born on July 14, 1942 to Damon and Ruth (Wilson) Hamilton. She graduated from the Prairie du Sac High School in 1960. Shortly after, she began working for the Sauk Prairie School District, where she spent 40 years in food service. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Edward Smith, and they spent 53 years together, most of them in Witwen.
Janet was an amazing cook, fantastic baker and lover of all things food. She fed generations of kids in the Sauk Prairie School District, cooked for the Thanksgiving fellowship dinner, prepared the feast for the Madrigal Dinner, cooked for the Great Circus Parade in Milwaukee and ran the 4H food stand for Sauk County for years. She loved entertaining at her home in Witwen, whether it was a shed full of family and friends for a Friday night fish fry – that she had caught while fishing with Eddie - or the annual 4th of July celebration. She loved to play cards, have breakfast at the Eagle Inn, and visit with family, friends and neighbors. She was incredibly proud of her collection of pedestal cake plates, numbering nearly 400.
But the most important thing to Janet was her family.

She is survived by Eddie and their 2 children: Pam and Randy (Tammy) Smith and her two granddaughters, Abby and Amber. She is further survived by two sisters, Jeri (Lyle) Huseth and Judy (Leo) Krabbenhoft and a very special sister-in-law, Patti (Dan) Christiansen. She was also loved dearly by her in-laws: Millie (Greg) Schultz, Larry (Sally) Smith and Rene Nelson. She was an amazing aunt to her nieces and nephews, a great friend to her neighbors in Witwen and made everyone around her feel special. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Arden and Pat Hamilton, her sisters Joan Baker and Joyce Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at Blackhawk – Bethlehem United Methodist Church, S10174 Hwy C., Sauk City, on Wednesday, July 29 at noon. Visitation will be from 9 am – time of services at the church. Lunch will follow at the church.
