IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice N.
Carlson
July 29, 1939 – November 5, 2024
Janice Nadine Carlson of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, departed this world to join our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, at the age of 85 from her home under Agrace Hospice care.
Janice was born on July 29th, 1939, at home in Parshall, North Dakota to Edgar and Thelma (Trihub) Zavalney. She grew up in the Parshall/Plaza North Dakota area, one of 7 children. She graduated from Parshall High School.
Janice married Haakon Carlson on February 2nd , 1958, in New Town, North Dakota. She was a homemaker for her 3 children and husband, as she followed Haakon through Grand Forks, North Dakota; New Town, North Dakota; Madison , Wisconsin; Duluth, Minnesota; and Hazen, North Dakota so he could complete his education and medical internship. They returned to Wisconsin in 1966, after missing the states' beautiful green grass and hills.
The family lived on First Street in Prairie du Sac since 1967. Some of her years were spent volunteering at the Sauk Prairie Hospital gift shop. Though she enjoyed all parts of this role, she most looked forward to when her grandkids, accompanied by their grandfather, would come in for a treat after playing tennis or working at their cottage.
Those she is joining in heaven includes her husband of 64 years, mother and father, 3 brothers: Bud Zavalney, Ted Zavalney, Ervin (Veronica) Zavalney; sisters Norene Boswell, Marvel (Virgil) Johnson; son James Haakon "Jamie" Carlson.
Janice will be remembered by her daughters; Lisa (Pat) Pickarts and Rebecca Williams; Grandchildren, Paige Nadine (Tim) Ederer, Patrick "Sonny" (Fabian) Pickarts, Tell (Ashley) Pickarts, Grayson (Kaylee) Williams, and Genesis (Jeffrey) Williams. Great grandsons Cameron, Theodore and Elias Ederer, Joseph Pickarts and great granddaughter Tatum Pickarts. Sister, Mavis Case and sister-in -law Joan Zavelney.
Respecting Janice' wishes, a small family gathering will replace a funeral.
The family thanks Kevin Klingenmeyer RN who for helping us gently guide Janice home; Ballweg Family Pharmacy, Doreen Henn, and Dr. John McAuliffe, who catered to her needs; Sherri, Carol, and Sally, "the ladies" that wouldn't let her be lonely.
