Jean M. Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully with her children and some grandchildren at her side, on Sunday, December 14 at Pine Villa Memory Care in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin.
Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin on February 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Malcolm and Ethelyne Carswell.
She grew up in the Menomonie, Wisconsin area. She graduated from UW-Stout with a B.S. degree in dietetics.
She was united in marriage to James Taylor on May 23, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their six children include Anne Conner (Bruce), Michael Taylor (Tina), David Taylor (deceased), Peter Taylor (stillborn), Mary Seifert (Terrance), Daniel Taylor (Sara). They raised the children in Hayward, Wisconsin.
She is survived by 13 grandchildren: Christopher (37), Kelsey (34), Andrew (32), Sarah (30), Jessica (28), Emma (26), Elizabeth (24), Claire (22), William (20), Michelle (34), Matthew (32), Erika (19), Danielle (17). She was also survived by 15, soon to be 16, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James (1988), her son David (2006), her sister Mary Joan (2025).
She was employed Pillsbury Foods in Minneapolis, where she met James her husband, prior to staying home and raising the kids. For many years she and James owned a family business, Mr. Burger, in Hayward.
She lived a simple life; her greatest joy was raising her family. She was known in her joyful and loving demeanor.
We are most grateful to the staff of The Pines Senior Living, where she lived for the past 16 years. We appreciate the loving care she received from the staff at Pine Villa Memory Care in her last two years. We would also like to express our gratitude to Agrace Hospice, especially her hospice nurse Kevin, for keeping her comfortable in her final days.
Jean's funeral Requiem Mass will be held at St. Mary Pine Bluff on Wednesday, December 17 at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior.
Burial will be the following day at River Hill Cemetery in Dairyland, Wisconsin.
