Jeanne D. Schmid, age 99, passed away at Maplewood Nursing Home on Thursday, September 1, 2016. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 30, 1916.
Jeanne attended school in Milwaukee and earned a degree in Occupational Therapy from Downer College. She began her career as an OT in Minneapolis at the Curative workshop and was able to move back to Milwaukee to work and be closer to her family. Jeanne worked as an OT her entire life and ended her career at Villa Clement Nursing Home where she retired at age 73.
Jeanne married Henry Schmid and had two children, Martha and David. Henry preceded her in death in 1973.
Jeanne served a Past President of the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association and The Christian Womens Association at Mother of Good Counsel Church in Milwaukee.
In later years Jeanne suffered from Macular Degeneration. She worked very hard to stay independent and many helped her achieve this goal. Jeanne's son David, and family friend, Pat Haight, took her to many appointments and helped her stay in her home.
Carol Hoefner from Rent A Daughter in Milwaukee was a great friend and helper. Eventually Jeanne moved to Sauk City, WI to live with Martha and favorite son-in-law, Nick. Wonderful caregivers, Arlene Bast, Ellen Paul, Cindy Reichhoff, Claire Joyner, Becky Powers and Mary Taylor helped make sure she could continue her favorite activities, walking in the park, and listening to books on tape.
Thanks also to the staff at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City for their skilled and compassionate care of Jeanne in her final years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday , September 8 at Mother of Good Counsel Church, 6924 W. Lisbon Ave., Milwaukee , WI 53210. Visitation will be held at the church at 11:00 AM.
