Obituary

Jennifer Lynn Wilcher was born on July 26,1983 in Park Ridge, Illinois and died unexpectedly on January 16, 2026 at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Jennifer moved to the Madison area at a very early age. She attended school in the Verona district, graduating from high school in 2001.  She played flute in the band, and ice hockey for fun.  Jen spent part of her childhood living near her mom with her aunt and uncle, Mary Sue and Rich Benigni, and their sons, Jason and Adam Benigni.

She went on to earn a Bachelor's in Psychology with a minor in Religious Studies from University of Wisconsin Steven's Point. She loved to learn, and continued a life-long study of human psychology and spirituality.  She pursued writing fiction, particularly fan fiction, and belonged to a writer's group for many years.

Jen explored and enjoyed the music of many genres and cultures. She was able to travel to Europe with the band in high school, and spent a semester abroad in Ireland during her college years.

She had a particular interest in Japanese culture. She studied Aikido at the dojo in Madison off and on from her childhood through her adult years. Her recent notebooks reveal an intense study of the language, meticulously translating song lyrics into each of the three forms of written Japanese.

Jen remained in Madison for her adult life. She particularly enjoyed the libraries, Tenny Park, Concerts on the Square, and the Farmer's Market.

She is survived by the four organ recipients to whom she donated, and is honored as a "Donor Hero" in the State of Wisconsin.

Jennifer is also survived by her mother, Janette Bertrand and her grandmother, Carol Wilcher.  Additionally, she is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of her family.  She is preceded in death by her father, Greg Wilcher.  She will be remembered in a private ceremony at a later date.
