Jerome "Jerry" D. Baker

Jerome “Jerry” Baker, 82, of Prairie du Sac, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home on September 19, 2026.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose presence meant more to the people around him than words could ever express.

To know Jerry was to know someone who showed up. No matter the time, the circumstances, or what was needed, he would be there. He was the kind of person you could call when you didn’t know where else to turn, because you knew he would do whatever he could to help. He had a strong, steady presence and a way of making the people around him feel that they were never alone.

Jerry’s greatest love was his family. He shared a life with his beloved wife of 60 years, Sharon “Sherry” (Burzynski), whom he married on September 2, 1966. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with memories, laughter, challenges, and countless moments that will be carried forward for generations. They lived in Mauston for many years before moving to Prairie du Sac in 2017 to be closer to their family. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Jerry grew up in the Mauston, Wisconsin area and carried with him the strong work ethic and dedication that would define much of his life. He was employed at the Badger Army Ordnance Plant for many years before later working and retiring from Cardinal Glass in Portage. During his years there, he earned many years of perfect attendance, a reflection of the dependability and commitment he brought to everything he did. Jerry also proudly served in the National Guard.

An avid Green Bay Packers fan, Jerry rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed working on cars and attending car shows, often sharing that love of cars with his family. Some of his favorite days were spent going to car shows with his son, Tim, making memories together along the way. But while these were some of the things he loved, nothing compared to the joy he found in his family.

Jerry especially treasured his great-grandchildren and deeply cherished the role he played in their lives. He was a source of comfort, guidance, stability, and unconditional love, and the memories they made with him will remain with them throughout their lives.

Jerry leaves behind a family who will miss his voice, his dad jokes, his whistling, his stories, his quiet, steady presence, and all of the little things that made him uniquely himself. Though his absence will be felt in countless ways, the love he gave his family will always remain.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; his children, Toni, Todd, Tim, and Tiffany; his grandchildren, Cody, Nick (Savannah) Baker, Chloe Baker, Angelina, Rylan, and Blake; his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Gwen, Carter, Clover, and Joseph; his sister, Patty; and many other relatives and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian; his parents, Dorothy Baker (McMillan) and Duane V. Baker; and his siblings, Larry, Dennis, Karen, and Ronnie.

A visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City on Friday, September 25, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 3:00 pm.  Military Honors will be accorded following the service by the Lachmund-Cramer VFW Post 7694. Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember and celebrate Jerry’s life and the man who spent his life loving, helping, and taking care of the people who mattered most to him.

Jerry may be gone from sight, but his spirit will never be gone from the lives of the people he loved. His family will carry him with them—in their memories, in their stories, and in the love he taught them to give.
