Joan M. Horne, age 65, passed away on August 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with breast cancer. She was born in Sauk Prairie on August 17, 1956 to Donald and Doris (Bonham) Blum. She attended Sauk Prairie High School and graduated in 1974. She met the love of her life, Jim, and they married in 1981, having two children, Tom and Alison.
Joan was employed by Sauk Prairie Schools for 32 years, retiring in January of 2021. She loved her school family.
She enjoyed crafting, scary movies, buying funny gifts for people and most of all, her family. When we sat down to attempt to write out her life and do her justice in one paragraph, we realized we simply can't and the task became slightly easier. Her sarcasm, her wit, her caring nature, her loyalty to her friends and family and pets…there are no words to accurately depict who she is and what she means to all of us. She will forever be missed but will live on when we talk to the birds on a walk, feed the giraffes at Timbavati or buy the funniest gift we can find for someone for Christmas.
One thing Mom did not want was for people to suffer or to be unhappy, so she had this little song that she liked to sing to make people smile. It went something like this "There's something in my pocket it belongs across my face. I keep it very close at hand in the most convenient place. I think you wouldn't guess it if you guessed a long, long while. So I'll take it out and put it on, it's a great big Nana smile."
She is survived by her husband James, her daughter Alison, her son Tom (Amy Johnson-Horne), her sister Karen (Jerry) Harpt of Wallace, MI, sister in law Jean (Blum) of Sauk City, nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved grandchildren (Hunter, Morgan, Dominick, Torrian, Elijah, Jack, McKenna and Teagan).
She is preceded in death by her father, (Donald), her mother (Doris) and her brother (Donny).
A celebration of life will be held at Marion Park (145 First St, Prairie du Sac, WI) from 2-6pm on Wednesday, August 17; her 66 th birthday. This will be open house format, come and stay for five minutes or the whole four hours. In staying true to her nature, Joan wanted everyone to come together and smile or laugh as she made us do our whole lives and will continue to do for the years to come. Her time on this world has ended with us, but now her next journey can begin.
