Kirner
November 2, 1932 – November 9, 2025
Joan Irene Kirner, age 93, formerly of Prairie du Sac passed away on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025 at her home at Milestone Senior Living in Cross Plains. She was born in Clark Co. WI on Nov. 2, 1932 to the late Peter H. and Edith A. (Ehlert) Kessenich. She graduated from Waunakee High School; class of 1950. Joan was united in marriage to Donald Kirner on May 26, 1952 at St. John Catholic Church, Waunakee; he preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2019.
Together they made their life in the Madison area, where Joan worked at Verex Mortgage Insurance Co. as a Claims Adjuster. Joan's passion was traveling; vacationing in Europe, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii were some of their favorites. Joan enjoyed reading and was a talented seamstress even sewing clothing for her kids. In retirement, Joan and Don built their retirement home in Cross Plains, later moving to Prairie du Sac to be closer to family.
She is survived by her children, Eric (Melaine) Kirner, Paul Kirner, Amy (Scott Friedl); two grandsons; Zachary (Kristy) Kirner and their 3 children, Quinn, Cole, Paige; and Peter (Danelle) and one more great grandchild expected in the spring of 26; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kessenich, brothers' in-law, Jim (Donna) Kirner, and Rich Kirner. Joan is further survived by nieces, nephews' other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Don; she was preceded by 5 siblings; brothers, Arnold (Harriett) Kessenich, Gilbert Kessenich, John (Norma) Kessenich and sisters, Florence (Mack) Capes, and Margaret (Kris) Rassmussen.
A visitation for Joan will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025 from 11:00 until 1: 00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Fr. Miguel Galvez. A private interment will follow the memorial at Kingston Cemetery.
