Joan Rebecca Premo, (Roessler) 91, died on March 10, 2012 in Spring Green, Wisconsin; one month after the death of her husband of 68 years.
Joan was born in Bear Creek Township, Sauk County, WI, on May 13, 1920. Joan, also known as Becky, graduated from Sauk City High School. After graduation, she met and married Rodney Premo. They traveled to and lived in Florida and California, while Rodney was in the Navy. In 1948, they returned to Prairie du Sac and started farming. In the 1950's through her later years, cake baking was her passion and a source of income for the family. During high school Joan worked at Meise's Bakery in Sauk City, where she learned the craft. Many knew her as "The Wedding Cake Lady" because she baked hundreds of cakes in her career. Friends and family also enjoyed her cakes, pies, cookies and other bakery treats.
Joan was active in many organizations: square dancing with the Tri-County Squares, Neighborhood Card Club (for over 50 years), 4-H Leader, Sauk County Homemakers, American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, and a member at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was a loving, kind and generous sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Joan is survived by her daughters: Jill (Derry) Brunscheen of Manitowoc, WI, Penny (Jay) Rendall of White Bear Lake, MN; two grandchildren, Wil (Stephanie) Rendall of Fort Polk, LA, and Rebecca Rendall and great grandson, Tanner, of White Bear Lake. Sisters and brother-in-laws, Maxine Hambrecht, Collette McFarlane, Donna Faye (Sylvester) Statz, Loretta (Peter) Dooley, brother-in-law, Melvin (Sally) Premo, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Genevieve Roessler: husband, Rodney Premo, sisters and brothers-in-laws: Mary (John) Flauger, Merc (Hillary) Mack, Polly (Russ) Malone, Delbert Hambrecht, Richard Mabbot, and James McFarlane, sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law Sylvia (John) Gray of Madison, WI, and Bonita (Cyril) Kenney of Oakland, CA, and Mildred Premo, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Sauk City, WI. Visitation will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, from 4:00-7:00pm, Thursday, March 15, 2012, and also from 10:15-11:15am on Friday, March 16, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Otter Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Ruth Culver Community Library Foundation, American Legion Post 167 Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, or River Arts, Inc.
