Obituary

John Joseph Denu, of Mazomanie, passed away quietly at his home under the care of Home Health United Hospice, surrounded by his wife and children, on Saturday, January 28, 2012. John lived 77 years, 52 of which were spent with his loving wife, Avis (Phillips), whom he married in 1959. He was born February 14, 1934 to the late Roy and Helen Denu of Mazomanie. John served in the U. S. Army from 1952 through 1957. He was employed at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he worked as an animal lab technician for 33 years, and later at Fiskars in Sauk City for 10 years. John was a man who loved the Lord and shared his time with his family, fishing, camping, and vacationing at Crescent Lake Bible Camp in Rhinelander, WI, and enjoyed the companionship of friends at the Curtis Street Bible Fellowship Church in Mazomanie.


He is survived by his wife, Avis; three children, Brent (Julie) Denu of New Glarus, Leanna (Jim Einhardt) Denu of New Richmond, and Chris (Lisa Reeve) Denu of Oregon; six grandchildren, Jered (Melissa) Hemmersbach of Cashton, Quentin Hemmersbach of Tomah, Keith (Beckie) Hemmersbach of Cashton, Kasey (Jeff) Thayer of Tomah,Cameron Denu of Arena, and Danielle Denu of Arena; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Joanne) Denu of Mazomanie; three sisters-in-law Vera Denu of Mazomanie, Janis Denu of Mt. Horeb, and Deanna (Ray) Sorenson of Kendall; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Algie and Roy; a sister Ruth Luther; a brother-in-law, Paul Luther; and two infant brothers.


A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Curtis Street Bible Fellowship Church, Mazomanie. Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
