John C. Gillespie

John Charles Gillespie, age 78, of Prairie du Sac, passed away on September 26, 2026 at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

John was born in Flint, Michigan to the late John E. and Shirley J. (Hinderer) Gillespie on Jan. 1, 1948. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Over the course of his more than 30 months of service, John was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal. Following his military service, he attended UW-Whitewater. John was united in marriage to Jean Hahn on May 23, 1970, in Deerfield, Illinois. He later built a career working for the Miller Brewing Company and Reynolds Metals.

An avid outdoorsman, John was an active member of the Lachmund-Cramer VFW post 7694 where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow veterans and serving with the honor guard. He also enjoyed helping out at Taylor Made Repairs in Merrimac.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Jean of Prairie du Sac; his sister, Janet (Don) Loomis; and many other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Roberta, Constance and Debra.
