Obituary

As per John's wishes a Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm at the Lake Wisconsin Country Club, N1076 Golf Rd., Prairie du Sac, WI 53578.

John R. Goodman, age 73, of Prairie du Sac passed away at University Hospital in Madison on Dec. 27, 2024 after a battle with Leukemia.  He was born in Monroe to the late Ralph and Louena (Wild) Goodman.  John attended and graduated from Belleville High School; class of 1969.  Following high school John attended MATC in Madison and joined his cousin Bill at Advertisers Press.  John continued to work at Advertisers Press for 46 years until he retired from full-time employment.  Throughout the years, he was part of and participated in the company's growth and its moves from Madison to its current location in Middleton.  Even after retirement, he couldn't walk away from a career with people he enjoyed, so he continued to manage the sales division until his health wouldn't allow him to do so.

John was united in marriage to Diane Short on May 6, 1972 in Belleville.  Together they made their home in Prairie du Sac raising their two children, Sean and Sarah.  John was a jack of all trades and handy with just about any tool in his hand.  He loved to take on projects and looked forward to passing those skills onto his kids as he helped them both with remodeling projects in their homes.  John loved the outdoors and looked forward to the annual fishing trip to Lake Pashkokogan in Ontario.  The fishing trip tradition started in 1972 and has continued just about every year since, and grew to include his son, grandson, and brothers-in-law.  John loved Ford Mustangs and enjoyed cruising from the seat of his red '68, with top down.  He was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than supporting and cheering on his own grandchildren, Ethan and Mya.

As an avid golfer, anyone who knew John knew they could find him on the greens.  He and Diane focused their search for a warm weather winter home near a golf course and found that in Davenport, FL where they quickly made many new lifelong friends.  John golfed frequently (8 days a week) and made sure to take his "birdie juice" with him.  He sunk a hole in one on a par 4 in the winter of '23 at Champions Gate.

In addition to his love of golf; John loved to travel.  He and Diane made many friends in their travels and were fortunate to travel worldwide.  They appreciate those friends and their support-even from many countries away during John's recent diagnosis.  He also enjoyed his monthly Bridge nights with the same card club friends for over 50 years.

John is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Sean (Julie) Goodman and their children, Ethan and Mya; Sarah (Kevin) Goodman; brother in-law, Dwaine Krentz, cousin Bill (Linda) Wild; Diane's siblings, Ken "Butch" Short, Julie Short, Kate (Mark Natzke) Short, Ed (Janet) Short, Kristie (Scott) Smeaton, and John Short.  He is further survived by many other relatives and dear friends, especially Craig and Chris Bender, Donna Knickmeyer, and John and Lana Baetz.

In addition to his parents and his in-laws, Robert and Mary Short; he was preceded in death by siblings, Joyce (Ron) Schmid, Carol Krentz; Diane's siblings, Dan (Shannon) and Ted (Debbie) and an infant sister, Jody; and dear friend Bill Knickmeyer.

John's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and healthcare professionals at both St. Mary's and U.W. Hospital for their wisdom, guidance, and compassionate care.  Also, to their family, friends, and neighbors for their thoughts, prayers, and help.

As per John's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
