John Stanley Kalsow, age 64, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 16, 1950 to the late Ernest and Katherine (Lybeck) Kalsow. John was a 1968 graduate of Wisconsin Heights High School. He married Margaret "Peggy" Laverty on January 7, 1972.
John and Peggy enjoyed living in Vermont Township, where they raised 3 daughters and bred, raised, and showed horses. His proudest achievement was watching his daughters show horses and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, especially the Badgers, Celtics, Cubs, and the Seahawks. John worked in the graphic art and printing industry for 35 years, retiring in 2008.
John is survived by his wife Peggy; 3 daughters, Amy (Keith) Schwarting of Arena, Rebecca (David Bilgrien) Kalsow of Cambridge, and Megan (Dustin) Eveland of Arena; 4 grandchildren, Cooper and Carter John Schwarting, and Alexa and Jax Eveland; a sister, Arlene (Richard) Ohnstad; a brother Wayne (Beth) Kalsow; and a brother-in-law, Richard Mickelson. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Mickelson.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Hwy 14 West, Mazomanie. A celebration of John's life will follow at the Arena American Legion Post, corner of Willow and High Streets, Arena.
