Julie Gilbertson (Lucey), danced into the arms of her precious Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the age of 84. Julie was born on December 13, 1942, to parents Donald and Kathleen Lucey of Mazomanie. She met David Gilbertson, the love of her life, at the Club 18 dance hall. They married on May 6, 1967 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Mazo. Christopher David and Kelly Suzette were born to this union, both red heads like their father. David and Julie raised their two children in Verona and were later divorced.
A prayer was answered when Larry Baumgartner came into Julie's life in 2000. Larry was very good to Julie with his considerate and loving nature. They liked to dance and take long drives in the country, and even went on a very special trip to the Holy Lands.
After graduating from high school, Julie worked in office positions at The Graber Company and the State of Wisconsin. During her child-raising years she was a homemaker and then later took a job at the Super 8 hotel in Verona. She loved meeting and interacting with people.Julie overcame several serious health challenges. She was a cancer survivor and later in life spent two months in the hospital with bacterial meningitis, which left her hearing-impaired.
Julie enjoyed biking, attending plays with Larry, antiquing, going to her granddaughters’ basketball and soccer games, and spending time with family and friends. She loved music and enjoyed dancing- especially polka. She was a volunteer at Four Winds Nursing Home in Verona for 11 years. She loved helping elderly people and was involved with the Meals On Wheels program with her dear friend Ruth Martin. She kept the graves of family and friends well-maintained and decorated. She enjoyed collecting figurines and salt and pepper shakers and displayed them proudly in her homes.
She was preceded in death by her lovely parents, ex-husband David, brothers Dan and Tim Lucey, niece Heather Olson, nephew Brett Lucey, and her love Larry Baumgartner.
Surviving Julie are her son Chris, daughter Kelly Grant (Kevin), daughter-in-law Rose Tankouanou, granddaughters Viviane and Freya, step grandchildren Kevin and Emilie Sinassambou, sister Mary Olson, and nieces Heidi Feller, Jill Lucey, and Gretchen Hagnal, and by her very special friend Kay Tippett.
Julie is so very grateful for all the beautiful friends God gave her over the years and she thanked Him every day for this.
Funeral services are pending.
Julie's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to family friend Rita Martin for her exceptional care as Julie's guardian. We would also like to give a very special thank you to the loving staff at BeeHive in Mount Horeb and Agrace Hospice, especially Julie's RN Brittany.
