Kathleen I Von Behren

Kathleen Ingrid VonBehren of Prairie du Sac, age 86, passed away at the Pines Assisted Living on Sept. 3, 2026. She was born Jan. 12, 1940 to the late Knute and Ingrid Riska. Kathleen attended and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis. She worked for over 45 years for WEA (Wisconsin Education Assoc.) as an insurance specialist. Kathleen was united in marriage to Alan Von Behren in 1981; he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1989. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing cards and golf. In her retirement she was introduced to Silvan “Sil” Maly and Kathleen moved to Waunakee with Sil. They enjoyed nearly 20 years of rides in the country, visiting family and friends. Kathleen was an excellent and talented seamstress, making clothing for her children when they were young to later making care bears, cabbage patch kids and clothing for Barbies. She loved to use her needle and thread and continued to cross stich and sew, doing ceramics and if she had some downtime-she loved to shop on QVC. She loved her time spent with family and looked forward to family events.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Dawn (John) Miller of West Point and their children, Tyler (Andrea) and their children, Sunny and Branch; Samantha (Scott Breunig) and their son, Cordell; her son, Joel Gilbertson or Prairie du Sac; longtime friend, Sil Maly and his family, Lynette (Larry) Kippley, Carol (Mike) Murphy, Pat (Maureen) Maly, and Mike (Maryanne) Maly and their families; Al’s children and their families and a sister in-law, Pearl Riska and her daughters, Hope and Carin. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Riska.

A Funeral Service for Kathleen will be held on Wed. Sept. 9th 2026 at 1:00 pm at Hooverson Funeral Home, 251 Water St., Sauk City. A visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Sauk City Cemetery.

Kathleen’s family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Trent Thompson in Waunakee for his care; the staff at St. Mary’s-Polly and Sara in Palliative Care and Devin in Social Services; Amy and Barb at Maplewood Rehab., Carrie and Amanda at the Pines, and SSM Hospice for their care of Kathleen.
