Sprecher
January 1, 1936 – May 11, 2025
Keith E. Sprecher, age 89, passed away on May 11, 2025, in Appleton, WI with his family at his side. He was born on the family farm in Black Hawk, WI on January 1, 1936, to Elias and Ellen (Gasser) Sprecher, the youngest of 8 children. He graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1955. After high school, Keith volunteered for the draft and served in the Army at Ladd Air Force Base (Fort Wainwright) in Fairbanks, AK.
He met the love of his life, Gretchen (nee Steichen) at Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1962. They were united in marriage in Campus, IL on February 16, 1963. Keith worked for Wisconsin Power and Light for 30 years, starting at the hydroelectric dam in Prairie du Sac and then the Columbia Generating Station in Portage.
After retirement, Keith and Gretchen spent their years travelling all over the continental U.S., Hawaii, Europe and Antarctica. In retirement they also owned the Breese Waye Bed and Breakfast in Portage for 10 years.
All throughout his life, he was an avid woodworker and was especially gifted with a lathe, turning masterpieces such as bowls, Christmas ornaments and other prized trinkets.
Keith is survived by his 3 children, Todd (Lynn) Sprecher of Waterford, Kim (Mike) Maguire of Appleton and Tonya (Mike) Lawton of Sauk City, and 8 grandchildren, Ben (Abbey) Sprecher, Sam (Christa) Sprecher, Zach (Kylie) Sprecher, Michael Maguire, Meghan (Niko) Rongos, Aiden Maguire, Lexi Lawton, Bridget Lawton and 7 great grandchildren, Jack, Madison, Elise, Quinn, Kinsley, Cole and Cate. He is further survived by a sister, Marion Yngsdal, a sister, Ruby Alwin, a sister-in-law, Lila Sprecher, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Steichen, a brother-in-law, Roger Schnoor, a sister-in-law, Dorlene Steichen, a brother-in-law, Jim (Darlene) Steichen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Ellen, his wife, Gretchen, brothers Les, Lyle, Halsey and Vilas, sister Liz Savides, sister-in-law, Ann Mortensen, sister-in-law Jackie Oelschlager, brother-in-law, George Steichen, sister-in-law, Marilyn Oelschlager, sister-in-law, Jane Schnoor, and brother-in-law Tiff Steichen.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. There is nothing he couldn't take apart and fix. He was fiercely loyal, hardworking and loved by many. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Concordia United Methodist Church, 585 5th St, Prairie du Sac, WI at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Friday, June 6, 2025, and 10:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday, June 7 all at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Sauk City. A lunch will follow the burial at the Dorf Haus Supper Club in Roxbury, WI.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Old Glory Honor Flight.
