Kevin Scott Ostrand, 58, of Mazomanie, WI, left this world and joined his Lord in eternal glory on December 30, 2022 after suffering a stroke. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Kevin was born on October 3, 1964, in Sturgeon Bay, WI to Russell and Helen (Sawyer) Ostrand. Kevin was baptized into Christ on June 6, 1965, the beginning of a lifetime of service to his Lord Jesus. Kevin grew up in Sturgeon Bay but moved to the Madison area in early adulthood. He settled in Mazomanie and began a culinary career of almost 40 years, most of which were spent as chef for Louisianne's restaurant in Middleton. Kevin wed his wife Caryn on March 18, 2000, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church; their blessed marriage endured for almost 23 years and gave Kevin an immediate stepfather role.

Although Kevin's recipes will live on, his elite artistry in the kitchen cannot be duplicated. Whether he was cooking for the restaurant, social events, or private gatherings, he did it with unrivaled finesse and flavor. Kevin's Easter brunch at St. Andrew was always highly anticipated. His brothers and sisters at the church loved him dearly for his fine eats, but even more for his faithfulness and willing service to Christ. He had a heart for service that he carried out with tranquil pride. A man of physical stature but not of aggression or hostility, he was sometimes called a gentle giant.

Outside the kitchen, Kevin enjoyed nature, especially hiking and the simple delight of birdwatching from his patio. One of his favorite Bible passages speaks to the serenity he had in considering himself a servant of God: "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care" (Psalm 95:6-7). His selflessness extended to the very end of his life through organ donation.

Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Caryn, of Mazomanie; brothers, Leon Ostrand of Green Bay and Dale Ostrand of Sturgeon Bay; sisters, Chrystal Jeurink of Sturgeon Bay, Bonita Ostrand of Sturgeon Bay, and Lynette LeFevre of Sturgeon Bay; stepson James Foote of Minneapolis, MN; stepdaughter Jessica Somar of Gilbert, AZ; and grandchildren, Taylor, Lauren, Ava, and Jackson. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Helen Ostrand; brothers, Russell Ostrand, Jr. and two infant brothers; and sister Dawn Naujock.

A funeral service will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6815 Schneider Road, Middleton, WI, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Visitation hours will be 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Saturday.
