Larry Adam Lenerz, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tues. Aug. 23, 2016 after a long and well-fought battle from complications of Leukemia diagnosed in 2005.
He was born Oct. 17, 1944 the second oldest of 12 children to Howard and Florina (Maier) Lenerz. Larry was a graduate of Sauk City High School; class of 1962 and later graduated from U.W. Platteville. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and served in Vietnam. On Jan. 27, 1973 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Roxbury he was united in marriage to Cheryl Ganser. In 1974, Larry his brother, Howie and his dad Howard, started a H.J. Lenerz and Son's construction company. They designed, and built many houses in the Sauk Prairie and surrounding area including the Cedarberry Inn. Larry enjoyed drafting and architecture and greatly admired the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. He enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, and was a supporting member of the Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Larry once stated the best part of the hunt was seeing the scenery and meeting the people along the way. He was a member of the Sauk Prairie Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694 and will miss his friends in the Friday lunch bunch.
Larry's last hunting adventure was hunting for the peace God has for all of us.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; 3 children, Jeanne Lenerz of Sauk City, Tom (Celine) Lenerz of Roxbury, and Doug Lenerz of Plain; 2 grandchildren, August and Margot; his mother, Florina Lenerz; mother in-law, Phyllis Ganser; 10 siblings, Howard (Joan) Lenerz, Peggy (Les) Ballweg, Pat (Tom) Wanek, Barb Raymond, John (Casey) Lenerz, Jim (Terri) Lenerz, Bill (Donna) Lenerz, Lori (Gary Vandehey) Beaudet, Nancy (Jeff) Herbrand, Rhonda (Chris Subka) Lenerz. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard; a brother, Doug; two nieces, Aimee and Tara; two nephews, Jamie and Travis; and his father in-law, Carleton Ganser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tues. Aug. 30 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church, Roxbury. A visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Mon. August 29, 2016 at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, and the morning of the service from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Sauk City. Military Honors will be accorded by Lachmund Cramer VFW Post 7694.
Larry and his family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to his sister Nancy Herbrand for being a bone marrow donor, Mike Wiley for being the first to volunteer, and to his many supporters and caregivers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Larry's name to the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center.
