Laura S. Maenche took her place in the heavenly orchestra on Saturday, September 27, 2014 after a lifetime of playing music for the enjoyment of many here on earth.

Laura was born in Myerstown, PA to Liberati and Nora Rummel on July 1, 1922. Her family heritage was very musical so she began playing piano, marimba, and accordion at an early age to accompany her father who played in the Myerstown (PA) Community Band. In high school she used her talents with various musical groups. Later in life she began playing the organ and was the church organist in churches in Alaska, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and here in Sauk City. In recent years she has played the piano for events at The Pines much to the pleasure to the residents there.

For 71 years her biggest music fan was her husband Al who often accompanied her when she practiced the organ at church. She, in turn, was by his side as they moved around from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Alaska, Illinois, and Texas for his military career. Al left her side on March 4, 2014.

Her greatest joy was caring for her family. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Laura enjoyed cake decorating, bowling, and painting ceramics. She and Al ran a successful ceramic business in PA after his retirement from the military.

Laura is survived by her son, Albert (Darleen) Maenche, Jr. of Ormond , FL and her daughter, Patricia (Carl) Barrett of Prairie duc Sac, WI. She will also be missed and remembered by her seven grandchildren and fourteen great-granchildren.



A funeral service will be held at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014 with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the First United Church of Christ Organ Fund, 504 Washington Ave., Sauk City, WI 53583.
