September 1, 1931 – May 6, 2025
LaVern "Vern" Lawrence Weisensel, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 6, 2025, in his home at the age of 93. Vern lived life with quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and an enduring spirit of resilience. He and his beloved wife, Marie, were married almost 69 years, building a life rich in faith, love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Vern is survived by his wife Marie (Uselmann), his children Lynette (Michael) Gebben and Jeff (Sheila Spayer) Weisensel; and five grandchildren Luke, Kate, Hunter, Connor and Owen. Survived by four siblings; Daniel (Shirley) Weisensel, Joann (Don) Nicholls, Dennis (Darlene) Weisensel, Linda (Roger – deceased) Wilsey; he was preceded in death by parents, Elias and Gertrude (Voelker) Weisensel; brother, David (Marylou - deceased). Vern leaves behind a lifetime of lessons and love, forever carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
On behalf of our entire family, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our dad and mom's incredible family and friends, and to all those who dedicate their time, compassion, Love, and service to others — The Pines Assisted Living Facility, Agrace Hospice, The Merrimac Village and Fire Department, the Sauk City and Prairie du Sac Ambulance Committees, and the remarkable Sauk-Prairie Healthcare team. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to our dad's Parkinson's support group, Father Pedro Escribano and the Divine Mercy Parish, who provide unwavering spiritual guidance and support throughout life's journey.
Vern was passionate and enjoyed the Merrimac Memorial Park on Lake Wisconsin and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Village of Merrimac, which will support a capital improvement project and a memorial plaque in Vern's name. A Memorial Mass for LaVern will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 115 Madison St., Sauk City with Fr. Pedro Escribano celebrating. Interment will be held at a later date in the St. Aloysius Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the Water St., Social Club, 550 Water St., Prairie du Sac.
