Obituary

Lavina Schwarz, 92, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2013, surrounded by family who dearly loved her. She was born to the late Henry and Leonora Nolden on August 19, 1921 in Witwen. Lavina married the late Edwin Schwarz on May 4, 1943 and together enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Our Mom, along with our Father, were the perfect examples of what parents should be and to the end she was a beacon of love for our family. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her strength of faith and family kept her going to the very end of her life. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Growing up, Lavina worked as a house girl in Lodi. After raising her family lovingly, she worked at the Sauk City Canning Company and worked as a cook at the Rathskeller and at Maplewood Nursing Home.

Lavina was a member of St. Aloysius Church for 66 years and the Catholic Woman's Alter Sodality until age 91. She and her husband actively volunteered together at St. Vincent De Paul, fixing and bringing old castaways to new life. She enjoyed her family, gardening, crocheting and was known for her fresh bread and famous strawberry jams and pies. Watching Packer and Badger games was a joy to her, but watching her grandchildren play sports was a favorite pastime.

She is survived by her six children, Joe (Barb) Schwarz, Viola Hosking, Marcella (Gary) Sawall, Mary (Pat) Stuckey, Henry (Debbie Jo) Schwarz, and Wanda (Gary) Zajicek; thirteen grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Nolden; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Nolden and Geraldine Nolden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Nolden and Harold Nolden; and two sisters, Dorothy O'Leary and Henrietta Kurt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at DIVINE MERCY PARISH (ST. ALOYSIUS), Sauk City at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Health United Hospice or St. Vincent De Paul.
