Leo Peter Ballweg, age 56, died on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Madison on October 12, 1952, the son of Mellitus M. and Catherine C. (Nolden) Ballweg. He graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1971 and was united in marriage to Vicki Rohr on May 11, 1984. After many years of being in sales, Leo and Vicki realized a lifelong dream and started Rustic Hills Log Furniture. Leo had a passion and talent for building beautiful furniture. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and sports, especially the Brewers and Packers. He was a loving husband to Vicki; a proud father to Jodi, Becki, Britteny, and Ty (Sarah) Hellem; and grandfather "Papa" to Juston, Jeffery, Kurtis, Jaccob, Logen, Dawson, Makenzie, Griffen, Braden, Lily and Cameron, who were the light of his life. He is further survived by his mother, Catherine Ballweg; eight siblings, Dolores (Cliff) Haas, Virginia (Bill) Helt, Armella Kalscheur, Mary (Lloyd) Meinholz, Merle (Connie) Ballweg, Audrey (John) Pechan, Virgil (Ruth) Ballweg, and Lucy (Tim) Seiler; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mellitus Ballweg; and a brother-in-law, Reggie Kalscheur. A memorial service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009 with Father Faustino Ruiz officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
