Leon R. Petzke, age 78, passed away on December 17, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Leon was born on July 3, 1937, near Denzer, WI the son of Fred and Anna Petzke. He grew up working on a farm with his brothers and sisters. After graduating high school, Leon joined the Army and served for 2 years. Leon married Marga Huelsemann on July 31, 1965 in Leland, WI. They welcomed a son, Ricky on October 6, 1966. They lived in Denzer before building a home in Black Earth. On July 26, 1971, their daughter, Erika was born. Leon helped design and build their home in Deforest. They moved into it in 1977. He was employed as a residential carpenter before becoming a foreman in commercial building.
He was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed helping others and became a regular handyman for his family and friends. He adored traveling with his wife. He lovingly cared for her after she was diagnosed with cancer. After her death, he continued to travel and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, liked to go out for dinner and listen to music and play cards.

He is survived by his son, Ricky Petzke; his daughter, Erika Holloway; grandson, Kurt Holloway, along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Hooverson Funeral Home, Sauk City, with Pastor Scot Sorensen officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Denzer Cemetery.
